The starting point for my work is the abstraction of natural forms. The inspiration comes out of the similarity and affinity that I feel exists between the natural world and myself. The forms are the shapes of vessels, fruit, and the biological anatomy of flowers. These images become a metaphor for the body, the inside and outside, the skin, cells and internal parts as I imagine them. The juxtaposition of color and image reflect the different realities that we continually encounter and the internal world in contrast with the external world. Sound movement and the stillness before and after are implied in all the paintings and hopefully bring to mind a heightened sensory awareness.
The color and texture that Danette achieves through the use of woodcuts on paper and through her use of oil and wax on board is captivating and reveals her transparent imagery that is graceful and bold.
