There is one theory of evolution that explains the creation of new species as evolving from the physical structures available in earlier living forms. Thus evolved the legs and feet of amphibians from the fins of fish. The idea is that creation doesn’t from out of the blue but rather is cobbled together genetically from the available building blocks in nature at the time. Templates function in much the same way for me. I create new template shapes from parts of old ones and use these hybrids to make up the compositions in new drawings and paintings. — David Lloyd Brown, June 2006
