Artist Statement

Carole Arnston has a multi-faceted background as an Architect in Canada. Her background has inspired a special empathy for the powerful messages of landscape: the dynamics of wind and sea, the drama of the garden and the movement of the meadow. Her background in design has also shaped her approach to painting. Arnston applies the paint by using a combination of broad and short brush strokes and generous gestural movements. Carole builds additional depth and texture with her palette knife. Arnston’s studio is set amongst 60′ cedar trees on the Pacific coast in West Vancouver. The ocean views and the sounds of the backyard creek add to the ambiance and inspiration for her dense color and powerful brushwork.
